Overview

Yunnan

Yunnan is a landlocked province in the southwest of China, and borders a number of Southeast Asian countries: Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar. Situated in a mountainous area, with high elevations in the northwest and low elevations in the southeast, most of the population lives in the eastern part of the province. Yunnan formed the base for the Yunnan clique, one of the several mutually hostile cliques or factions that split from the Beiyang Government in the Republic of China's warlord era.

Long Yun

Long Yun was governor and warlord of the Chinese province of Yunnan from 1927 to October 1945, when he was overthrown in a coup by Du Yuming under the order of Chiang Kai-shek, known as the Kunming Incident.

But it was your policies of the New Yunnan that saw a series of political, military, economic, cultural and educational reforms. Unlike many other warlord states, this made Yunnan a prosperous and stable state, leading to declarations that Yunnan’s capital was a democratic fortress. You also built infrastructure, with the Yunnan-Burma Highway standing as a testament to your desire to connect the newly independent Yunnan to the rest of the world.

Oh unwavering Long Yun, Yunnan has fallen into the clutches of those who reward repression, destroying all your advances and reforms which made life better for those in Yunnan. It is incumbent upon you to return Yunnan to glory, sweeping away the rotten old authoritarian structures and bringing about a new, prosperous democracy like you did once before. Can you restore democracy and responsiveness to the people for the citizens of Yunnan? Will you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?"
