Overview[]

Vijayanagara[]

The Vijayanagara Empire, also sometimes called the Karnata Kingdom was a Hindu empire that coverered much of the region of South India, controlling the lands of the modern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa and some parts of Telangana and Maharashtra. It was established in 1336 by the brothers Harihara I and Bukka Raya I of the Sangama dynasty, members of a pastoralist cowherd community that claimed Yadava lineage. The empire rose to prominence as a culmination of attempts by the southern powers to ward off Perso-Turkic Islamic invasions by the end of the 13th century. At its peak, it subjugated almost all of South India's ruling families and pushed the sultans of the Deccan beyond the Tungabhadra-Krishna river doab region. It lasted until 1646, although its power declined after a major military defeat in the Battle of Talikota in 1565 by the combined armies of the Deccan sultanates.

Krishnadevaraya[]

Krishnadevaraya ruled ancient India’s Vijayanagara Empire for only about two decades, however his power, skills, and personality were made known in that short amount of time and so it seemed much longer. His military campaigns expanded the empire and made it a seat of power, his artistic and architectural interests withstood the passing of time and influenced others, and his diplomatic skills had an impact on how the Portuguese viewed and interacted with the subcontinent.

Dawn of Man[]

Hail, Emperor Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara, third monarch of the Tuluva dynasty, Karnatakaratna Simhasanadeeshwara, Gaubrahmana Pratipalaka, and Mooru Rayara Ganda. An able administatot and an excellent general, your reign was marked by expansion and consolidation, defeating the Sultans of Bijapur and Golconda, among others. Your people loved you and you ruled efficiently and justly, abolishing the marriage fee while increasing revenue by cultivating new areas and conducting large-scale irrigation works. Literature of all languages flourished, as Sanskrit, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil poets were patronised, while you yourself were fluent in all these languages. You were also a merchant king, trading with the Portuguese in Goa for both guns and Arabian horses for your city and empire. You eventually fell ill and died, your enemies unable to bring you to heed.

VijayanagaraLeaderscene

Oh magnificent Krishnadevaraya, Lord of the Jewelled Throne of Karnataka, there are works yet to be created, kingdoms to be conquered, and works to be built. You must stand firm and be the best king you can; for your people, for your kingdom. Can you provide exemplary leadership in a time of renewal and great uncertainty, to build again a great empire? Will you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?

Introduction: "Welcome to the realm of the Vijayanagara Empire! I am Krishnadevaraya, Lord of the Jewelled Throne of Karnataka, you will be welcome here."

Defeat: "I have no passion left to give. My body is a husk. My kingdom has fallen."
