Overview[]

Tunis[]

Tunisia is a North African country, located between Algeria and Libya. It contains the ruins of Carthage, and the people became Muslim and Arabic speaking following the Islamic conquest.

Abu Zakariya[]

Abu Zakariya Yahya (1203–1249) was the founder and first leader of the Hafsid dynasty in Ifriqiya. He was the grandson of Sheikh Abu al-Hafs, the leader of the Hintata and Masmuda and second in command of the Almohads.

Dawn of Man[]

"The people of Tunisia await your courage and wisdom, Sultan Abu Zakariya, the founder of the great Hafsid Dynasty. Under your astute guidance, the land of Ifriqiya became a prominent center of wealth and power, a mighty force that cast its shadow across the northern rim of Africa. The waves of the Mediterranean once again thronged with commerce that made the site of ancient Carthage its home, as well as the notorious and shrewd Barbary pirates that did your bidding. The arts and culture revived, and alliances with Christian Europe forged, the Hafsids failed in the ensuing power struggle with the rising Ottoman Empire, as Tunis fell swiftly to the Turkish fleet and the traitorous corsairs that once were yours to command. Tunisia would be devoid of its independence until the opportune withdrawal of France in 1956 allowed it once again to carve its own path in the modern world.

Wise Caliph, the Hafsid Dynasty looks to you to restore its past greatness, to make Tunisia a powerful hub of trade to be reckoned with. Will you reclaim your throne and avenge the many injustices your small but proud nation has suffered? Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?"

Introduction: "Welcome to Ifriqiya. You must be tired after such a journey but first, let us discuss any business of mutual benefit. What do you say?"

Introduction: "I heard someone from afar landed in my Ifriqiya. Welcome stranger, how may the Sultan of the Hafsids help you?"

Defeat: "The past cannot be changed. It was written, the ink is dry. Congratulations on your conquest."

Defeat: "I suspected this terrible betrayal of the pirates, but my foolishness is not to blame. You armies were greater. That is all."
