The Philippines led by Emilio Aguinaldo is a custom civilization by DuskJockey, with contributions from Knightmare and Viregel.

This mod requires the Spain and Inca DLC, as well as Brave New World. It also replaces the City-State of Manila with Taipei.

Overview

Philippines

The Republic of the Philippines is a nation situated in South-East Asia, somewhat near to Taiwan and to the north-east of the Indonesian island of Borneo. Until about 500 years ago, the islands were relatively isolated from the rest of the world. This changed in 1521, when Ferdinand Magellan, a Spanish explorer, came across the modern-day Philippines while trying to sail around the world. Magellan was later killed by the natives, who kept his body as a war trophy. In 1565, the first Spanish settlement was established on the islands, making way for around 350 years of colonial rule for the islands. In the late 19th Century, nationalist and reform movements began in the Philippines among both the natives and the Spanish. In 1898, they proclaimed independence, but were handed over to the USA in the Treaty of Paris. The Filipinos eventually got a home government in 1934, and in 1946, they finally got full independence after the fight against the Japanese in the Second World War. In the 20th Century, the dictator Ferdinand Marcos took power, and through his corrupt regime he deprived the country of a lot of its wealth. Marcos was overthrown almost bloodlessly in 1986, and the power of the Philippine Republic was restored to its people.

The Philippine revolutionary leader Emilio Aguinaldo fought for independence of the Philippine Islands, first against Spain and then against the United States.

"Rise, Emilio Aguinaldo, general of the revolution and president of the first Philippine Republic. Though born from common stock, all around you could ense that you were made for greatness. Beginning first as a bureaucrat in the Spanish colonial government, their practices would enflame your convictions, leading you to the Katipunan, a secret society dedicated to the motherland's liberation. There you would again ascend the ranks, eventually wresting power even from Supreme Leader Andres Bonifacio. It was from this office that you successfully led the revolution against the colonizers, and from this office that you would accept the duties and responsibilities of the first President of the Philippines. But the country's hard-earned peace was not to last; the treacherous Americans invaded the Philippines in 1899 AD, and brought the first republic in Asia to her knees not three years later.
