Overview

The Pechenegs

The Pechenegs were an Old Turkic group who formed a khanate on the steppes of Ukraine during the middle ages. Despite having held a significant role in Rus' and Byzantine wars, having at one point or another fought for each side, much of the history of the Pechenegs has been lost. After having been defeated by the Byzantines at the Battle of Levounion, many Pechenegs migrated and integrated with Hungarian settlements, and a lot of placenames mark a historic connection to the ethnic Pechenegs that once occupied the regions. They were also known as a member of a group known the the Chorni Klobukyy, or 'Black Hats' that united several Turkic cultures around the citadel of Torchesk. The most notable military accomplishment of the Pechenegs, however, was the defeat of Kyivan prince Svyatoslav I by the Pecheneg Khan Kurya.

Kurya

Not much is known about the life of Kurya, Khan of the Pechenegs. Known as one of the most powerful Pecheneg Khans, he was allied with the Byzantine Empire against the Kyivan Rus'. At the Emperor's command, Kurya ambushed and killed the Kyivan prince Svyatoslav, and afterwards turned his skull into a chalice, as was customary with valiant enemies.

Dawn of Man

Gather your hordes once more, Kurya of the Pecheneg Khanate. It was your brutal and cunning nature that led your peoples to ally with the Byzantines against the Kyivan prince Svyatoslav I. You ambushed him and his soldiers, slaughtered them, and turned Svyatoslav’s skull into a chalice for you and your wife to drink from. However, times have changed for your kin. Your people were defeated by your once proud allies- the Byzantines! Having migrated to Hungary, your people soon vanished from history, leaving behind only a legacy…

However, all is not lost. Rise from your tent once more, Khan Kurya, and see that your foes be brought to the sword! Can you instill fear into enemies and allies alike? Can you lead your hordes to glorious victory against the foes you face once again? Can you build a Civilization that will stand the test of time?

Unique Attributes

Golden Crown of Svyatoslav Tribute from City-States rewards additional Gold and Great General points. Upon demanding Tribute, receive Influence towards all other City-States you can demand Tribute from.
Oq (Landsknecht) Replaces the Landsknecht. Requires Horses. Mounted Ranged Unit with additional Movement. Can move after Combat. +15% Combat Strength when stacked with a Civilian Unit. Upon purchase, all Allied City-States receive a free Copy.
Kangar (Great General) Receives equal Movement when starting their turn stacked with a Mounted Unit. May be expended to levy Units from allied City-States.
