The Nivkh led by Umu is a custom civilization mod by Lungora and ExplosiveWatermelon, with contributions from Arilasqueto.
Overview[]
The Nivkh[]
The Nivkh are an indigenous people who occupy Sakhalin and Mainland Russia. They were traditionally semi-nomadic, and gained renowned as hunters, fishermen, and dog breeders. After their traditional lands were occupied by Russia, they faced many systematic issues brought on by the Russian government. Their traditional worship is shamanist, with a particular reverence for bears.
Umu[]
The hero Umu was born from an egg- the egg itself formed from the knee of a childless woman. In certain tellings of the story, he is bedridden for years until he grows up. Upon growing up, he learns that his parents have been murdered and sets off to avenge them. Typically, he used figurines and spirits to aid him in his quest. Although he was a strong combatant, his fights did not end in death. At the end of the story, Umu is typically married off and does well for himself.
Dawn of Man[]
