The Khanty led by Alach is a custom civilization mod by ExplosiveWatermelon, with contributions from Arilasqueto and Danrell.

Overview[]

The Khanty[]

The Khanty are an indigenous people of Siberia that occupy a traditional territory they refer to as 'Yugra', which also referred to a collection of Khanty and Mansi Principalities. While the Khanty and Mansi are often paired together, there is a history of conflict between the two groups, especially during the Yugrian Principalities period. The most powerful of these Principalities was the Principality of Koda, ruled over by Prince Alach and his namesake dynasty. The Khanty were very diplomatic, able to form alliances with both Russia and the Sibir Khanate at different times. One story even says that after the death of Yermak Timofeyvich at the hands of a united Sibir-Khanty force, Kuchum Khan rewarded Alach with cossack armor believed to be that of Yermak's.

Alach[]

Prince Alach was a Khanty ruler of the Principality of Koda who allied with Kuchum Khan of Sibir against the Cossack ataman Yermak Timofeyvich. Yermak, having killed Alach's predecessor, allowed for Alach to take power in his stead. After Alach's contributions to the battle which took Yermak's life, Kuchum Khan rewarded him with Yermak's armor. Alach evidently found reverence amongst his people, as both the following dynasty and their capital were named Alachev in his honor. He died sometime around 1593, and was succeeded by his son Prince Igichi.

Salutations, prince Alach of Koda. Your fortune brought you towards the forefront of Khanty society upon the death of your predecessor, Prince Samara. Although initially in an uneasy alliance with the Russians, you later allied with the great Kuchum Khan of Sibir in defiance of Russian imperialism, claiming the life of the Cossack ataman Yermak Timofeyvich. Kuchum Khan, in recognition of your efforts, would then bestow upon you the Cossack's armor.

Alas, the principalities of Yugra have been scattered, and both Khanty and Mansi alike need of your leadership. Can you defend your lands and culture with fervor? Can you forge new alliances to bring your people out of midnight and into the sun? Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?

Introduction: "Greetings, I am Prince Alach of the Khanty Principality of Koda. Have you come to offer your respects to the idols?"

Introduction: "Greetings, I'm Prince Alach of Koda, leader of these Khanty peoples. If you seek negotiations, I'll happily hear you out."

Defeat: "So, this is how it ends- my people are scattered, my principality in ruins. At my end, so too ends Yugra."
