Overview[]
The Cherokee[]
The Cherokee are the North American Indians of Iroquoian lineage who constituted one of the largest politically integrated tribes at the time of European colonization of the Americas. Their name is derived from a Creek word meaning “people of different speech”; many prefer to be known as Keetoowah or Tsalagi. They are believed to have numbered some 22,500 individuals in 1650, and they controlled approximately 40,000 square miles (100,000 square km) of the Appalachian Mountains in parts of present-day Georgia, eastern Tennessee, and the western parts of what are now North Carolina and South Carolina.
Moytoy[]
Moytoy of Tellico, (died 1741) (Amo-adawehi in Cherokee, meaning "rainmaker") was a prominent leader of the Cherokee in the American Southeast. He was given the title of "Emperor of the Cherokee" by Sir Alexander Cumming, a Scots-Anglo trade envoy in what was then the Province of South Carolina, and is regularly referred to as "King" in official English reports, as this was a familiar term of rank to colonists. He was from Great Tellico, an historic Cherokee town in what is now Tennessee.

"Welcome O' great rainmaker, Moytoy of the Cherokee. For millenia, your people have been tied to the Southeastern woodlands of what is today the United States. Confronted as all the peoples of the Americas have been with the white invasion of the 19th century, you were one of the Cherokee's great beloved men. In 1730, at the behest of the Scots-Anglo adventurer, Sir Alexander Cumming, you would be crowned as emperor over your people, securing the dignity and diplomatic platform upon which your nation could be given a voice against the colonizers.

Beloved emperor, the great council houses of your people have come together once more to accept your emperorship. Can you bring harmony and full-life to a scattered people? Can you, when the drums of war beat loudly, secure their right to self-government? Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?"
Introduction: "Greetings, outsider. On behalf of my people, I am Moytoy, emperor and first beloved man. Come, sit by our sacred fire and we might share stories of each others' culture."
