Overview

Achaemenid Empire

The term "Persia" derives from a region in southern Iran formerly known as "Persis;" it is commonly used to describe areas where the Persian language and customs predominated. There have been a series of "Persian Empires" throughout history; in this article we are specifically examining the Achaemenid dynasty, which began in 559 BC and ended some two centuries later under the onslaught of the Greek military genius Alexander the Great.

Cyrus II

Cyrus the Great's achievements are monumental - he created a stable empire that was larger than any seen before. He achieved this through leniency. He did not force the people that he conquered to follow his religion, nor did he force them to give up their culture. He even told the Babylonians that he was sent by their god, who he didn't even believe in! The modern Iranian people regard Cyrus as "The Father", a title used by the nations he conquered, over two thousand years ago. He has been a hero to many people, including Thomas Jefferson, one of America's "Founding Fathers"; and David Ben-Gurion, the founder of modern Israel and its first Prime Minister. Cyrus II truly deserved the title "The Great", and his empire stood for over 200 years after his death. Perhaps if other empires had learnt from him, and allowed their subjects freedom in their beliefs, then they might have lasted longer themselves...

Dawn of Man

Greetings Cyrus the Great, Ruler of the Four Corners of the World. You are the founder of the Achaemenid Empire, a great empire that reached from Africa to India. Your rule is remembered as being gracious, as you allowed the cultures of your defeated enemies to mix with your own Achaemenid practices, creating a culturally diverse empire that accepted cultures, rather than try to eradicate them like so many others had. Your crowning moment was when your Achaemenid armies captured Babylon, liberating the people and freeing the Jewish Exiles from Babylonian rule, which gained you the name Messiah.

Great Cyrus, your people long for the freedom they had under your rule. Will you march forth and liberate the world from opression and disgrace? Will you acknowledge the existance of beliefs and cultures foreign from your own, and accept them into your people's lives? Will you build a civilization that stands the test of time?

Introduction: "I am Cyrus, King of the Universe, the Great King, the Powerful King, King of Babylon, King of Sumer and Akkad, King of the Four Quarters of the World. What business do you have with me?"

Introduction: "Who stands before the Shahanshah? Are you a vassal of mine, or will that come later?"

Defeat: "My empire once stretched to the edges of the world - now it is no more."

Defeat: "While Persia has been defeated, I am sure that its legacy will be visible long into the future. My principles will be remembered and respected long after your empire has crumbled into dust."

Establish the Chapar Kaneh between {1_Capital} and {2_City}

Trade is crucial for any empire to grow - but in order for trade to flourish, the roads must be safe from bandits and raiders. Therefore, Chapar Kaneh posts should be established between {1_Capital} and {2_City}, in order to keep the road defended.

Requirements/Restrictions:

• Player must be The Achaemenids.
• {2_City} must be connected to the Capital.
• {2_City} must have a garrison.
• May only be enacted once per City.

Costs:

• The garrisoned unit is disbanded.
• {3_Cost} Gold (increases the further away the City is from the Capital).

Rewards:

• You receive +2 Gold from International Trade Routes targetting {2_City}, and the Owner recieves +1 Gold.
• Land units trained in this city gain +10 XP.
• Melee, Gunpowder, Mounted and Armour units trained in this city gain +15% Combat Strengthwhile on a Friendly or Neutral road.

Introduce the Usa Bari

Our enemies field powerful cavalry forces. Although we can of course defeat them, it’s always wise to look for the most efficient path to victory. One of our foreign generals has suggested placing camels amongst our horsemen, to terrify the enemy’s cavalry - should we introduce this measure?

Requirements/Restrictions:

• Player must be The Achaemenids.
• Player must have discovered Horseback Riding.
• Player must have captured a Great General.
• Player must not be in a Golden Age

Costs:

• {1_GAP} Golden Age Points.

Rewards:

• All Mounted Units receive a +33% Combat Strength bonus vs other Mounted units.
