Overview[]
Srivijaya[]
Srivijaya was a Buddhist thalassocratic Indonesian empire based on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, which influenced much of Southeast Asia. Srivijaya was an important centre for the expansion of Buddhism from the 8th to the 12th century AD. Srivijaya was the first unified kingdom to dominate much of the Indonesian archipelago. The rise of the Srivijayan Empire was parallel to the end of the Malay sea-faring period. Due to its location, this once-powerful state developed complex technology utilizing maritime resources. In addition, its economy became progressively reliant on the booming trade in the region, thus transforming it into a prestige goods-based economy.
Sri Jayanasa[]
Sri Jayanasa, in full Dapunta Hyang Sri Jayanasa, was the founder of the Srivijaya Emperor. Mentioned in the Kedukan Bukit inscription, where much of the information on Srivijaya was discovered, he embarked on a Siddhayatra, or sacred journey, by boat. He departed from a small town accompanied with 20,000 soldiers, and established the Srivijayan empire after defeating his enemies in Jambi, Palembang, Southern Lampung and Bangka. He went further to launch a military campaign against Bhumi Java that probably contributed to the decline of the Tarumanagara kingdom in West Java.
Dawn of Man[]
"May the heavens smile sweetly upon you, Dapunta Hyang Sri Jayanasa! You rule the grand Srivijaya Empire, and in doing so lord over the great seas and straits of Indonesia, one of the richest areas for trade in the world. Oh great Jayanasa, your rise to power is one of conquest and piety. Ruler of only a small principality with its location lost to history, you embarked on a sacred journey with a great fleet, conquering much of the rich islands of Java and Sumatra. Your successors would build on your conquests, establishing wondrous sites across the islands, such as the grand temple of Borobudur. Your thalassocratic empire would spread across the seas, establishing it as the unquestioned master of trade and wealth in the South Seas!

Oh great Maharaja, your empire has long been forgotten to time, lingering on only in the temples and palaces it left behind. But it is time to forge the Srivijaya Empire once more! Will you again embark on your sacred journey? Will you build a civilization to stand the test of time?"
Introduction: "Weary traveler, have you come far? This is the great Srivijaya, the richest land in the world! Perhaps you shall earn your place as an honoured trading partner - or, perhaps, a loyal vassal?"
Defeat: "And so the last bastion of faith falls into the water. Our temples will survive us!"
