Overview[]

Sibir[]

The Khanate of Sibir, was a Tatar Khanate located in southwestern Siberia with a Turco-Mongol ruling class. Throughout its history, members of the Shaybanid and Taibugid dynasties often contested the rulership over the Khanate between each other; both of these competing tribes were direct patrilineal descendants of Genghis Khan through his eldest son Jochi and Jochi's fifth son Shayban. The area of the Khanate had once formed an integral part of the Mongol Empire, and later came under the control of the White Horde and the Golden Horde of 1242-1502. The Khanate of Sibir had an ethnically diverse population of Turkic Siberian Tatars, Bashkirs and speakers of various Uralic languages - including the Khanty, Mansi and Selkup, and was the northernmost Muslim state in recorded history. Its defeat by Yermak Timofeyevich in 1582 marked the beginning of the Russian conquest of Siberia.

Kuchum Khan[]

Kuchum Khan was the last khan of the Khanate of Sibir. His attempt to spread Islam and his cross-border raids met with vigorous opposition from the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible, who sent a force of Cossacks led by Yermak Timofeyvich to confront him head-on. Kuchum is particularly noted for the vigorous resistance he offered to the Russian invaders.

Kuchum Khan! Lord of the Shayabanids, he who makes the forest tremble before his army! Truly you are the heir of Shayban, and of Genghis himself. When you rose to the throne you knew that the light of Islam had to be brought to the many peoples ekeing out an existence in the wilderness. You rebuilt the great city of Qashliq and restored the Siberian state to become a force for the region. After earning great profits from raiding Christians to your west, you won the emnity of the terrible Tsar of Muscovy, who sent the Cossack chieftain Yermak to destroy you. Qashliq burned, but your people did not, and you spent twenty years on the tundra moving your loyal host and winning skirmish after skirmish, assisting your Selkup comrades to the east and Kazakh brothers to the south. While your sons were captured and your army dwindled, you remained free for almost twenty years, until blindness and old age forced you to flee from the cause and seek refuge in Bukhara. Your faith in the Lord remained true; and your daughters and sons were to oppose the great Russian bear for centuries to come.

Oh indomitable Khan, the tundra knows no equal. Your people now suffer; the Russian state is today ruled by a madman and on the edge of collapse, a despot intent on waging an unwinnable war. Only one of the great commanders of old can give them strength; enough to restore the word Islam and the freedom of Siberia. Can you accept their plea? Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of Time?

Introduction: Welcome to the lands of the noble Khan of Sibir. I am Khan Kuchum, lord of the Shayabanids, Tatars, Keraites, Selkups and Kipchacks. Whom are your lord of? Do you have tales to tell or riches to pay me?

Defeat: Sibir is no more. My sons, however shall continue to lead our people, migrating together and far from your tyranny. Perhaps someday we will grow to rival you once again.
