Overview[]
Qoyunlu[]
The Qoyunlu, together the Aq Qoyunlu and the Qara Qoyunlu, were Persianate Muslim Turkoman states that ruled over an area that included the territory of modern Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, eastern Turkey, and Georgia, from the late 14th century to the late 15th and early 16th century. The Qara Qoyunlu are also known as the Black Sheep Turkomans, whereas Aq Qoyunlu are known as the White Sheep Turkomans. The name Aq Qoyunlu is first mentioned in late 14th century sources. It has been suggested that this name refers to old totemic symbols, but according to Rashid al-Din Hamadani, the Turks were forbidden to eat the flesh of their totem-animals, and so this is unlikely given the importance of mutton in the diet of pastoral nomads. Another hypothesis is that the name refers to the predominant color of their flocks.
Uzun Hasan[]
Uzun Hasan was a ruler of the Aq Qoyunlu, or White Sheep Turkomen, and generally considered to be its strongest ruler. Hasan ruled between 1452 and 1478, and would preside over the confederation's territorial apex, when it included parts or all of present-day Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, Transcaucasia and Syria.

You brought your people to the zenith of their dominance, controlling much of the lands of the former Ilkhanate in present Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. Much war wracked your people, with a rift between the Qara Qoyunlu and Aq Qoyunlu ever present, you fought against the emergent Ottomans, giving them a bloody nose. But your pastoral nomadic roots did not stop you from issuing laws, many of which now are lost, but earnt you a reputation as a fair and just ruler. A savy political operator, you navigated the complex political webbing of Venice.
Uzun Hasan, the time has come to heal the rift between your peoples. Ready your flocks, merge your white and black sheep, and come to an agreement. For it is again time to terrify your enemies, as descendants of Oghuz Khagan. Sure up the support of your vizier, protect your flock, and explode onto the world stage once more. Can you lead your unified tribe to success? Will you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?
