Civilization V Customisation Wiki

Palmyra led by Zenobia is a custom civilization mod by DuskJockey and Merrick, with contributions from the CivFanatics Creation and Customization forum.

This mod requires Gods and Kings and Brave New World.

Palmyra, also called Tadmur, Tadmor, or Tudmur, is an ancient city in south-central Syria, 210 km northeast of Damascus. The name Palmyra, meaning "city of palm trees," was conferred upon the city by its Roman rulers in the 1st century AD; Tadmur, Tadmor, or Tudmur, the pre-Semitic name of the site, is also still in use. The city is mentioned in tablets dating from as early as the 19th century BC. It attained prominence in the 3rd century bce, when a road through it became one of the main routes of east-west trade. Palmyra was built on an oasis lying approximately halfway between the Mediterranean Sea (west) and the Euphrates River (east), and it helped connect the Roman world with Mesopotamia and the East.

Septimia Zenobia was queen of the Roman colony of Palmyra from 267 or 268 to 272. She conquered several of Rome's eastern provinces before she was subjugated by the emperor Aurelian.

Dawn of Man[]

"Dearest empress Septimia Zenobia, your armies await your orders. You are the ruler of magnificent Palmyra, an ancient city that lies in the harsh Syrian desert. Since the dawn of civilization, Palmyra has stood as a gateway from east to west, a meeting place of cultures old and new, giving it the title of "Venice of the Sands". You were by far its most famous and competent ruler, throwing off the yoke of Roman rule and carving out a vast empire stretching from Anatolia in the north to Egypt in the south during the darkest days of the third century BC. Through cunning stratagems and unmatched courage, you singlehandedly posed one of the greatest threats to Roman supremacy in that empire's history.

Most graceful queen, your empire may be lost, but you are not forgotten. The people of the Syrian desert clamor for a ruler both strong and wise to reclaim their former glory and deliver them from evil. Will Palmyra come to once more master the desert under your rule? Will you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?"

Introduction: "I am Septimia Zenobia, august sovereign over Palmyra, the most resplendent city in this or any land. And you, what titles have you claimed for yourself?"

Defeat: "You may slaughter my armies and raze my cities, but you shall never break me. I will never submit!"
