Overview[]
Nigeria[]
Nigeria is a major power in today’s Africa, bolstered by an extremely rapidly growing population and bountiful oil reserves. Defined by its multiculturalism, Nigeria is also home to a vibrant and growing cultural scene. Once a British colony, Nigeria became independent in the 1960s and, after struggling under various military dictatorships, is poised to shape the 21st Century in Africa.
Olusegun Obasanjo[]
Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Ogunboye Aremu Obasanjo is a Nigerian retired military officer and statesman who served as Nigeria's head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007. Ideologically a Nigerian nationalist, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 1998 to 2015, and since 2018.
Obasanjo has been described as one of the great figures of the second generation of post-colonial African leaders. He received praise both for overseeing Nigeria's transition to representative democracy in the 1970s and for his Pan-African efforts to encourage cooperation across the continent. Critics maintain that he was guilty of corruption, that his administrations oversaw human rights abuses, and that as president he became too interested in consolidating and maintaining his personal power.
Dawn of Man[]
"Arise, O Nigerians - the Giant must be awoken! In many ways, you take control of a young nation. Forged out of the crimson ashes of the retreating British empire, Nigeria was granted the ambitious task of uniting one of Africa's most populous, most diverse and most wealthy regions beneath verdant banners of green, white and green. Along the way you reckoned with the internecine conflict of religions, cultures and ideologies. Ethnicities sought to cast off your flag, fighting tooth and nail for the right to interpret Peace and Progress under their own terms. Muslims fought Christians, Christians fought Muslims, and all the while military strongmen rose and fell like the murky waters of the Niger delta. In many other ways, however, you stand in a land that has long been the giant of Africa. It was here on the great Nigerian plateau that man first discovered the secrets of Iron, and it is here where great empires forged their own destinies - the clash of that very same iron singing across the hills and forests of this land. It is here where, in the end, the great tides of Empire washed across the land, despite some of the greatest, most heroic acts of defiance on the continent from Igbo warbands to the Caliph's of the North. After all this - it is here where you will build the Giant of Africa. A Nation of musicians, of filmakers, of dreamers. Of the bright lights of Lagos and the quiet sunsets of Kano.

The African Giant awaits o president. The king's palace has burned, but in its place a more beautiful one might be built. Can you put together all that which has fallen apart? Can you unite two hundred million dreamers beneath a single vision? Can you forge a nation out of many peoples who have, on the banks of the Niger, on the dusty fringes of the Sahel and in the merchant pearls of the Gulf, dreamed to stand the test of time?"
Introduction: "Greetings! Welcome to Nigeria! From the bustling streets of Lagos to our ancient cities along the fringes of the Sahel - please take in our beautiful cities. If that's not your style, take in the beautiful forests of our nation, or bow your head at the somber slave cities which dot our beautiful coast. Whatever you desire, traveller, you'll find it here."
Defeat: "My people have endured worse, you think us defeated but we long ago learned how to wait. Count your days, the Green, White and Green will one day fly above the ashes you leave behind."

Strategy[]

Nigeria truly lives up to its reputation as the Giant of Africa, earning bonus growth simply for keeping your other cities growing! By focusing on your citizens needs, and trading away the bountiful resources you can acquire in your ever growing republic, you can leverage Nigeria's unique ability into near continuous periods of WLTKD, keeping your cities growing at a tremendous pace! Use this growth to aquire more Great Work slots, which should be no problem to fill thanks to Nigeria's unique Nollywood Studio UB. By sending its Great People points to the capital, the Studio provides huge benefits to wide play - the more cities you have, the more you can supercharge your cultural output and ensure that your many citizens truly have something to celebrate! As you cruise towards a cultural victory in the late game, be sure to deploy a massive fleet of Ezugwu to keep your empire safe, something that should be easy given you won't be limited by oil! If you do have oil, however, your army can benefit both from its huge size AND its combat strength! Keep expanding to snatch up those oil spots and you'll truly be a force to be reckoned with.
