This mod requires Brave New World.

Overview[]

Ngai Tahu[]

Ngai Tahu, also known as Kai Tahu, is the principal Maori iwi of the South Island. Its takiwa is the largest in New Zealand, and extends from the White Bluffs / Te Parinui o Whiti, Mount Mahanga and Kahurangi Point in the north to Stewart Island / Rakiura in the south. Ngai Tahu originated in the Gisborne District of the North Island. Over time, all but Ngati Porou would migrate away from the district. After European arrival, Ngati Toa and Ngati Rarua invaded Ngai Tahu's territory with muskets. Some European settlers intermingled with native iwi populations, and today, most families who descend from Ngai Tahu also have Ngati Mamoe and British ancestry.

Tuhawaiki[]

Tuhawaiki, known also as Hone Tuhawaiki, John Tuhawaiki or Jack Tuhawaiki, or by his nickname of "Bloody Jack" was a paramount chief of the Ngai Tahu Maori iwi in the southern part of the South Island of New Zealand, and was based predominantly on Ruapuke Island. He gained his nickname from early interactions with Foveaux Strait whalers on account of his red coats bought off soldiers in Australia that he and his whaling crew wore.

Welcome, Hone Tuhawaiki - great rangatira of the south! You are the paramount chief of Ngai Tahu, one of the most powerful iwi in all of Aotearoa. Since arriving on the Takitimu waka, your people - the descendents of the famed Tahupotiki - have had a rich and storied history. After being driven from your home in the north, your people sought to never again be at the mercy of another, quickly expanding your supremacy from the peaks of Kaikoura in the north to the windswept isles of Rakiura in the south. Your mastery of the harsh alpine interior gave your people sole control over the prized pounamu, which you deftly used to foster your economic might across Aotearoa. Wave upon wave of invaders - first from the north, then from afar - sought to challenge your authority, and you dealt to them all.

Tuhawaiki! Your people look to you once more to don the mantle of Bloody Jack, to step down from your island fortress and lead your scattered people to victory in the face of adversity once more! Will you again unite the chiefs of the south to show the world the might of Ngai Tahu? Will you lead a civilisation that can stand the test of time?

Introduction: You must be in dire need of an audience to have braved these waters. I am Tuhawaiki, paramount chief of Ngai Tahu. Come, the muttonbird is nearly ready.

Defeat: You have driven us to the edge of the world, we now must go beyond.
