Overview[]

Mysore[]

The Kingdom of Mysore was a realm in the southern part of Deccan Plateau. The kingdom, which was founded and ruled for the most part by the Hindu Wodeyar family, initially served as feudatories under the Vijayanagara Empire. The 17th century saw a steady expansion of its territory and during the rule of Narasaraja Wodeyar I and Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar, the kingdom annexed large expanses of what is now southern Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu to become a powerful state in the southern Deccan. During a brief Muslim rule, the kingdom shifted to a Sultanate style of administration under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. During this time, it came into conflict with the Marathas, the Nizam of Hyderabad, the Kingdom of Travancore and the British, which culminated in the four Anglo-Mysore Wars. The British restored the Wodeyars to their throne by way of a subsidiary alliance and the diminished Mysore was transformed into a princely state. The Wodeyars continued to rule the state until Indian independence in 1947, when Mysore acceded to the Union of India.

Tipu Sultan[]

Tipu Sultan, commonly known as Sher-e-Mysore or "Tiger of Mysore", was the Indian Muslim ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore. A pioneer of rocket artillery, he introduced a number of administrative innovations during his rule, including a new coinage system and calendar, new land revenue system, which initiated the growth of the Mysore silk industry, and introduced Channapatna toys. Tipu Sultan and his father used their French-trained army in alliance with the French in their struggle with the British, and the conflicts with surrounding powers such as the Marathas. He won important victories against the British in the Second Anglo-Mysore War, but in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, a combined force of British East India Company troops supported by the Marathas and the Nizam of Hyderabad defeated Tipu.

Let the rockets fly against your enemies, oh Badshah Tipu Sultan, Tiger of Mysore. It was your armies and rockets that provided the last resistance against the British in India, so much so that upon your death the British celebrated with a public holiday. But this was not your only endeavour, as you introduced a new coinage system, new land revenue system, developed the Mysore silk industry and pioneered Channapatna toys. Your wars against the Marathas and British forced them to recognise Mysore as a legitimate power in the region, but they grew jealous and anxious, respectively, and made alliance to destroy and depose you. Despite an alliance with Napoleon Bonepart and France, you were unable to hold on and succumbed, declaring that it was better to live one day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep.

Your enemies have had their way, but it is time for you to take your revenge. Build a new arsenal and take your revenge. Rebuild and reinvigorate your empire. Can you innovate and strategise new ways to defeat your enemies and keep control of your lands? Will you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?

Introduction: Welcome to Mysore. This land, rich and fertile, will reward those that work on it. I hope you come with good intentions.

Defeat: It is far better to live like a tiger for a day than to live like a jackal for a hundred years.
