Overview

Malacca

The Malay Sultanate of Malacca was established in 1400 AD by Parameswara. Prior to establishing Malacca, Parameswara was the Raja of Singapura, who had to flee Singapura as a result of a Majapahit invasion. Malacca became a safe haven in the 1370s as it began to receive a growing number of refugees running away from Mahapahit's attacks on other villages. Following establishment of his new city in Malacca, Parameswara initiated the development of the place and laid the foundation of a trade port.

Parameswara

Parameswara, also believed to be the same person as Iskandar Shah, was born in 1344. However, where he was born is debated by scholars. The Malay Annals says that Parameswara was born in Singapura itself, as a descendant of Sang Nila Utama (The 1st Raja of Singapura). There was a peaceful succession of power between Sri Maharaja (The 4th Raja of Signapura) and Parameswara in this account, making Parameswara the 5th Raja of Signapura. However, the Suma Oriental says that Parameswara was born in Palembang, where he challenged Javan rule.

However, despite fate implying your demise in Singapura at the hands of the Majapahit empire, you were able to successfully escape and establish a kingdom of your own. Upon seeing a mouse deer outsmart a dog, you decided a proper location for your new state and named it Malacca. You ruled over Malacca, allowing it to foster as a port and become a notable Sultanate. You established connections with Ming China, allowing you to ensure Malacca stayed prosperous for years to come. Overall, under you, Malacca was able to grow to become one of the greatest sultanates in Southeast Asia.
