Civilization V Customisation Wiki

The Minaeans, or Ma'in, led by Waqah'il Sadiq I is a custom civilization mod by DMS, with contributions from DarthKyofu.

This mod requires Brave New World.

Ma'in was an pre-islamic Arab kingdom in present-day Yemen. While there is much uncertainty and various theories pointing in different directions regarding both their origin and demise, most scholars believe that the kingdom lasted from around the 10th century BC until the late 2nd century BC, when it was conquered by either neighboring Saba or the Qatabanians. The timeframe of their golden age is also widely disputed, but sources agree that it was in the latter half of their existence, when they conquered Najran, the Asir, and much of the Hejaz as well as increased their influence along the incense trail, trading with Egypt, the Levant and even Greece.

The Minaeans differ from the other pre-islamic Arab kingdoms in that they speak directly about trade in their many inscriptions and the kingdom seems to have been much more concentrated on commerce than on war. Their many trade colonies established along the incense trade route, also show features of being peaceful communities not unlike that of city-state-like democracies.

Waqahi'l Sadiq I[]

Waqah'il Sadiq I was king of Ma'in during what is commonly known as the golden age of the kingdom. However, sources differ on when this golden age occured by to as much as 2 centuries: from the early 4th century BC to the early 2nd century BC. One thing is certain, though, and that is that during this time, the influence of Ma'in streched all across the Arabian peninsula and even beyond, to Egypt and Greece.

In the city of Dedan in the Lihyanite Kingdom of western Arabia, it is believed that a Minaean community prospered and inscriptions list Waqah'il Sadiq I as their king. This is likely Dedan actually came under Minaean control, either directly or indirectly. It was also during this time, that the Minaeans became the dominant power of the southern Arabian kingdoms and controlled much of the activity of the incense trade route.

Dawn of Man[]

The snakes of Wadd bless you, oh great king Waqah'il Sadiq of Ma'in. You lead a kingdom shrouded in mysteries and the unknown and yet your accomplishments shine through. Ruling over a vast kingdom with influence all across Arabia and even beyond, it was under your rule that the kingdom's control reached faraway Dedan in western Arabia and control over the incense trail was solidified. Even in Greece and Egypt, Minaean communities thrived and your merchants travelled the known world, supplying temples with valuable incense.
