Iceland

Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic, with a population of 360,390 and an area of 103,000 km2 (40,000 sq mi), making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe.

Kristján Eldjárn

Kristján Þórarinsson Eldjárn was the third President of Iceland, governing from 1968 to 1980. As an academic, he contributed to the revival of interest in Iceland's pre-Christian traditions. As leader of the nation, he oversaw the defence of his country's economic interests in the militarised disputes that would come to be called the Cod Wars.

Born to humble beginnings, you began public life as a man of science: as an archaeologist, you aided in bringing the Nordic ways of your ancestors back to prominence with your theses and your public appearances. But as it happened, fate had other designs for you. Riding the vicissitudes of time, you were first elected President of Iceland in 1968. Throughout your three terms in office, you defended the sovereignty of your ancient homeland against foreign encroachment, leading Iceland to victory against the United Kingdom in the Cod Wars.

President Eldjárn, the Icelandic people once again require your vast knowledge and steely resolve to lead them against the great powers of this world. Can you once more rise to the demands of office, and hold these titanic foes accountable? Can you build a civilization to stand the test of time?"
