Overview[]

Hudson's Bay Company[]

The Hudson's Bay Company, now a retail group, served as a major exporter of Furs from North America. However, it was also the de facto system of governance in Prince Rupert's Land- the lands surrounding the Hudson Bay. They hired teams of voyageurs and fur traders to explore the land, establish diplomatic contact with Native peoples, and conduct trade. However, amongst Native Groups, the legacy of the Hudson's Bay Company isn't clean- the company was opportunistic and fierce, and took advantage of First Nations people and their homeland. However, the Hudson's Bay company left an irremovable mark on Canadian history- their administration of colonial territory helped pave the way for the modern nation of Canada. At one point, they held complete control over the North American Fur Trade during the 19th century.

George Simpson[]

Born illegitimate, George Simpson was raised by his two aunts and paternal grandmother, Isobel Simpson. It was only in 1812 when fate brought the adult George Simpson in contact with the Hudson's Bay Company. Years of conflict with the North West company having been brought to an end by a corporate merger allowed George Simpson to seize opportunity of acting as governor of Rupert's Land. During this time, he launched major expeditions along rivers from the Hudson's Bay southwest and to the Pacific. His effective administration oversaw the Hudson's Bay Company's height and paved the way for the Confederation of Canada. He was also known for his expeditions, including a circumnavigation.

Dawn of Man[]

The World is open before you, Sir George Simpson. It was fortune that brought you to the head of the Hudson’s Bay Company. The Company, having recently merged with the North West Company, now stood to monopolize the great North American Fur Trade. Your skillful administration of both colonial and economic affairs was nothing to be scoffed at- and, in turn, your leadership lay the groundwork for the creation of the Canadian nation.

It’s now upon you to restore the company to prosperity! The company has been reduced to a hollow shell of itself, peddling clothes and blankets. Can you send your Voyageurs to new, uncharted lands? Can you turn your wisdom into profit? Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?

Introduction: Hello there, my name is George Simpson. I'm the administrator of Rupert's Land and representative of the Hudson's Bay Company. Care for some tea?

Introduction: I am Sir George Simpson, governor for the Hudson's Bay Company. Oh, and yes, we're interested in trade agreements with any willing nation.

Defeat: Ah, well- I guess fortune doesn't always favor the bold. Do your worst with it, I've already made my share of the profits.
