Goguryeo, led by Gwanggaeto, is a custom civilisation mod by More Civilisations and DuskJockey, with contributions from Darth, Regalman, and TheSpecialize. The civ was initially released as part of the 10th Anniversary Collection, an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of Civilization V.

This mod requires Brave New World.

Overview

Goguryeo

Goguryeo, also known as Koguryo or Goryeo, was the kingdom which ruled northern Korea during the Three Kingdoms period from the 1st century BC to 7th century AD. Goguryeo was in constant rivalry with the smaller Baekje and Silla kingdoms, as well as the contemporary Gaya confederation and regional heavyweight China. The kingdom flourished in the 5th and 6th century AD and has left a rich cultural heritage best seen in its tomb art and architecture. The kingdom was finally crushed by a combined Tang and Silla army in 668 AD. Thereafter it became a Chinese province, but Goguryeo would not be forgotten as it gave its name to the modern state of Korea.

Gwanggaeto

Gwanggaeto, often referred to as Gwanggaeto the Great, was king of the Goguryeo kingdom which ruled northern Korea during the Three Kingdoms period. Gwanggaeto reigned between 391 and 413 AD, and living up to his other title of 'broad expander of domain', he extended the kingdom to its greatest extent and presided over the period of its greatest prosperity. His lasting reputation as one of Korea's finest leaders and field commanders is largely due to a lengthy inscribed stele set up outside his massive tomb at the then Goguryeo capital of Gungnae.

Nestled in the mountains of the Korean peninsula, Goguryeo was merely one of many vying for supremacy. But when you, O supreme king, grasped the reins of power, you would rouse the kingdom's martial spirit and direct it towards one of the greatest exertions of energy seen in the history of Asia. By your strength of arms you brought countless domains into the kingdom's fold, and by your heaven-sent wisdom you administered them justly. Rightly you are known as the the kingdom's Broad Expander of Domain!

Yeongnak Emperor, before you lies a new world ripe for conquest, and behind you lies the only army that matters. Will you take up your sword and lead Goguryeo's charge towards grand prosperity? Or will you usher in an era of jubilation with your just governance? Will you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?

Introduction: "Good morrow to you, foreign leader. I am Gwanggaeto, sovereign over the lands called Goguryeo. Shall we discuss how to divide this world between our two great nations?"

Defeat: "You have triumphed today, and for that you have my begrudging admiration. Not many have done battle with my armies and come away victorious."

Attacked: "Then send all the "armies" you want. None shall overwhelm Goguryeo's stout-hearted soldiers."

Declaration of War: "The time for speeches is long past. Any further diplomacy between us must be conducted on the battlefield!"

Declaration of Friendship: My friend, will you join me in a public Declaration of Friendship? Together, we shall be victorious against any foe.

Denouncement: Your abominable conduct has roused Goguryeo's fury. Turn away from these deeds, or we will make you.

Denounce Friend: I may sully my honor by going back on my word, but I have faith that history will absolve me of any wrongdoing today.

Response to Denouncement: Your slanderous words will never tarnish Goguryeo's reputation.
