Overview[]

Elam[]

Elam was an ancient civilization centered in the far west and southwest of modern-day Iran, stretching from the lowlands of what is now Khuzestan and Ilam Province as well as a small part of southern Iraq. The modern name Elam stems from the Sumerian transliteration elam(a), along with the later Akkadian elamtu, and the Elamite haltamti. Elamite states were among the leading political forces of the Ancient Near East. In classical literature, Elam was also known as Susiana, a name derived from its capital Susa. Elam was part of the early urbanization during the Chalcolithic period. The emergence of written records from around 3000 BC also parallels Sumerian history, where slightly earlier records have been found. In the Old Elamite period (Middle Bronze Age), Elam consisted of kingdoms on the Iranian plateau, centred in Anshan, and from the mid-2nd millennium BC, it was centred in Susa in the Khuzestan lowlands. Its culture played a crucial role during the Persian Achaemenid dynasty that succeeded Elam, when the Elamite language remained among those in official use. Elamite is generally considered a language isolate unrelated to any other languages.

Shutruk-Nakhunte[]

Shutruk-Nakhunte was king of Elam from about 1184 to 1155 BC, the second king of the Shutrukid Dynasty. Preceded by Khallutush-Inshushinak, his father, and succeeded by Kutir-Nahhunte II, his son, it was under Shutruk-Nakhunte that Elam amassed an empire that included most of Mesopotamia and western Iran. It was under his command that Elam defeated the Kassites and established the short-lived Elamite Empire, which was conquered by Nebuchadnezzar I of Babylon, in 1120 BC, after roughly 40 years.

Dawn of Man[]

"Glory to you and your empire, Shutruk-Nakhunte of Elam, who defeated the Kassites and established the Elamite Empire. King from about 1184 to 1155 BC, you were the second king of the Shutrukid Dynasty of Elam. It was under your command that Elam amassed an empire that included most of Mesopotamia and western Iran, an empire which lasted 40 years. This was worthy of celebration, so you inscribed your name upon the stele of Naram-Sin, which had stood for a millennium, celebration your victory and dedicating it to the god Inshushinak as his servant. Your men transported the stele from the Babylonian city of Sippar to the lands of Elam, where it stood as a monument to your victory.

Shutruk Scene

Shutruk-Nakhunte, the people of Elam, those known as the offspring of the son of Shem, are once again looking for a great leader to lead their civilization. A people once lost, they call for guidance and a new light that will defend their gods without razing possible friends. The people call for a strong lead who can restore Elam and all her multitude. Can you fulfil the path set out to you by the people and the gods? Can you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?"

Introduction: "I am Shutruk-Nahhunte, son of Hallutush-Inshushinak, beloved servant of the god Inshushinak, king of Anshan and Susa, who has enlarged the kingdom. What do you desire?"

Defeat: "Even with salt and sihlu scattered over the lands, the people of Elam shall never truly be banished"
