Overview

Carantania

Carantania, also known as Carentania, was a Slavic principality that emerged in the second half of the 7th century, in the territory of present-day southern Austria and north-eastern Slovenia. It was the predecessor of the March of Carinthia, created within the Carolingian Empire in 889.

Boruth

Boruth, also known as Borut or Borouth, was the first documented Slavic prince, or knyaz, of Carantania, ruling from about 740 until his death. He was one of the few pagan leaders of the Carantanians to convert to Christianity.

Dawn of Man

"The time for indecisiveness is over, Prince Boruth of Carantania, for your people once again cry out for one as bold as you. As the first documented Slavic prince of Carantania, you initially asserted yourself as a Carantanian chieftain of the Eastern Alps. It was in this position that, under consistent pressure from Avar raids, you appealed to the might of the Agilolfing duke of Bavaria, Odilo, for military aid, the price of which was to accept Bavarian overlordship and Christian faith. It was under these conditions that you became one of the few pagan leaders of the Carantanians to convert to Christianity. Succeeded by your son Cacatius and nephew Cheitmar, your people were incorporated into the Carolingian kingdom of the Franks nearly forty years after your death.

The world has become a chaotic place, and your people have measured the princes who came after you and have found them wanting. They desire one such as you to make the decisive and courageous choices that were required of you in your time. Will you once more make the intrepid choice you once made, and be the fighter of your name? Can you build a civilization to stand the test of time?"
