The Shaybanids, or Shibanids, (or more accurately the Abu'l-Khayrid-Shibanids) were a Persianized Turko-Mongol dynasty in Central Asia who ruled over most of modern-day Kazakhstan, much of Uzbekistan, and parts of southern Russia (including Siberia) in the 15th century. They were the patrilineal descendants of Shiban, the fifth son of Jochi and grandson of Genghis Khan. Until the mid-14th century, they acknowledged the authority of the descendants of Shiban's brothers Batu Khan and Orda Khan, such as Öz Beg Khan. The Shaybanids originally led the grey horde southeast of the Urals (also known as the Uzbegs, after the Uzbeks), and converted to Islam in 1282. At its height, the khanate included parts of modern-day Afghanistan and other parts of Central Asia.

Another state ruled by the Shaybanids was the Khanate of Sibir, seizing the throne in 1563. Its last khan, Kuchum, was deposed by the Russians in 1598. He escaped to Bukhara, but his sons and grandsons were taken by the Tsar to Moscow, where they eventually assumed the surname of Sibirsky.

Muhammad Shaybani[]

Muhammad Shaybani Khan (also known as Abul-Fath Shaybani Khan or Shayabak Khan or Shahi Beg Khan) was the first Khan of the Khanate of Bukhara. Muhammad Shaybani was born in 1451, one of the eleven sons to Uzbek ruler Abu'l-Khayr Khan. Shaybani was initially an Uzbek warrior leading a contingent of 3,000 men in the army of the Timurid ruler of Samarkand, Sultan Ahmed Mirza under the Amir, Abdul Ali Tarkhan. However, when Ahmed Mirza went to war against Sultan Mahmud Khan, the Khan of Moghulistan, to reclaim Tashkent from him, Shaybani secretly met the Moghul Khan and agreed to betray and plunder Ahmed's army. This happened in the Battle of the Chirciq River in 1488 CE, resulting in a decisive victory for Moghulistan. Sultan Mahmud Khan gave Turkistan to Shaybani as a reward. Here, however, Shaybani oppressed the local Kazakhs, resulting in a war between Moghulistan and the Kazakh Khanate. Moghulistan was defeated in this war, but Shaybani gained power among the Uzbeks. He decided to conquer Samarkand and Bukhara from Ahmed Mirza. Sultan Mahmud's subordinate emirs convinced him to aid Shaybani in doing so, and together they marched on Samarkand.

Dawn of Man[]

Hail, Muhammad Shaybani, founder of the Shaybanid Dynasty. Initially an Uzbek warrior in the Timurid army, it was through cunning that you first received the city of Turkistan as a reward. You built on this, as, after gaining power within the Uzbek population, you conquered Samarkand and Bukhara, ousting Babur and the Timurids from their capital in 1500. You continued building your empire, taking Herat and Bukhara, establishing the Khanate of Bukhara. But soon, your neighbors grew wary of your success and of your devout Sunnism, and Shah Ismail I, founder of the Safavids, rapidly conquered many of your lands. Defeated in battle after Ismail feigned retreat, your legacy was not in vain, as your uncle was able to keep the Khanate together, and, despite losing territory, the Khanate would last until 1785.

Oh resolute Muhammad Shaybani, there are so many more lands to be conquered. Central Asia is once again fertile land, full of cities and civilizations to conquer. Enemies, new and old, wait to meet you on the battlefield. Can you establish a new Khanate for the Uzbek people, and lead them into a new era? Will you build a civilization that can stand the test of time?

Introduction: "I am Muhammad Shaybani, leader of this vast empire and Khan of the Uzbeks. You have quite the conviction to talk directly to me; perhaps its stupidity?"

Defeat: "My father's legacy... in shambles. Curse you, may you live in torment!"
