Overview

Bali

Known as "the island of a thousand temples", Bali and its history are steeped in culture and religion, being one of the last bastions of Hinduism in Indonesia.

Mahendradatta

Mahendradatta was queen of Bali and queen consort of Udayana Warmadewa. She was also the mother of Javanese hero-king Airlangga, but is presently more popularly associated with the demon Rangda.

"May the heavens always shine upon your path, stern and serene Mahendradatta, mistress of Bali and all her people. Known the world over as the island of a thousand temples, the holy island of Bali has borne witness to the rise and fall of numerous civilizations, as well as the pious and hardworking spirit of its people. Though by birth a foreign princess, you would wed the Warmadewa king Udayana, receiving for you and your offspring the eternal office of guiding this land. Under your joint reign, many temples and monasteries were built, and peace and the Hindu faith took root and spread throughout Bali.

O' fearsome Bull-Slayer, the people of Bali have forgotten the old ways. Only your strong hand can guide them back to the path of righteousness. Can you bring Bali under divine protection once more? Can you cement Bali's legacy as a land of the gods? Can you build a civilization to stand the test of time?"
