This mod requires Brave New World.

For most of its history, the land known as "Australia" has been inhabited by various Aboriginal peoples, who were isolated from the rest of the world. Upon the European discovery of this vast landmass in 1606, many countries tried to take portions of it. Eventually, the British took the entire island of Australia, turning it into one of their most prosperous - and largest - colonies. Due to the vast amount of available land, the British Empire sent convicts to the territory, as a way of keeping the British Isles crime-free. Eventually, in 1901, Australia got its first Prime Minister, and eventually independence from Great Britain. As a newly-formed nation, Australia joined the First and Second World Wars, helping to put its place on the world map. Today, Australia is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world, as well as having strong economic and political links with other countries.

John Curtin[]

John Curtin was the 14th Australian Prime Minister, serving from the 7th October 1941 to his death on the 5th July 1945. This was, of course, the majority of World War II. Curtin was a member of the Australian Labor Party from 1935 to his death, Frequently considered as one of Australia’s best Prime Ministers, Curtin’s legacy is defined by his statesmanship at the helm of Australia during one of its most trying times, earning him praise for American general Douglas MacArthur, who said of him "he was one of the greatest of wartime statesmen, and the preservation of Australia from invasion will be his immemorial monument".

Dawn of Man[]

"We owe you much, Right Honourable John Curtin, Prime Minister of Australia! Before you were thrust into office, your country had suffered years upon years of crippling economic depression and governmental instability, and was faced with the outbreak of war in Europe and rising tensions in the Pacific. When Japanese aggression brought warfare to the nation's borders for the first time in its history, Australia was truly at its darkest hour. But under your leadership, Australia and her allies pushed their would-be invaders back from your shores! Thanks to your ingenious diplomatic and internal policies, Australia emerged from the war more united, more prosperous, and more assertive than ever. Though you tragically would not live to see it, your actions transformed the country into an independent and self-sufficient nation that thrives to this day.

Prime Minister Curtin, dark clouds brew over Australia once more. The people clamour for your guiding hand to lead them through another time of great turmoil. Will you lead your island home onwards to peace and prosperity? Will you build a civilization to stand the test of time?"

Introduction: "I bid you welcome to Australia. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance, and we shall be eternally vigilant as long as threats to our freedom remain."

Defeat: "Australia is truly at its darkest hour. The principles for which we have fought will survive longer than any nation you could ever build."

With two late UUs, Curtin has to maximize his Unique Ability, which means buddying up with people first to really build a production network, and waging joint wars, preferably alongside your allies, to become an industrial powerhouse. The military-alliance bent leans itself, ironically, to Autocracy (although Freedom is also very valid). The Boomerang is a powerful and easy to get unit, but importantly, its main strength lies in being able to fulfill all roles - ground support, air interception and scouting, as well as the sheer number of them you can get for cheap. The Independent Company is a great "troll" unit, being very mobile, perfect for infiltration and causing chaos in the enemy backline, and makes great use of any upgraded crossbowmen you may have. The policies push for a combo of Liberty, Patronage and Rationalism, with Autocracy as a finishing blow.
