Australia led by Harold Holt is a custom civilization by Zharques, with contributions from DuskJockey, Arilasqueto, RawSasquatch, Darth, Senshi, JFD, TopHat, and the Lads.

This mod requires Brave New World.

For most of its history, the land known as "Australia" has been inhabited by various Aboriginal peoples, who were isolated from the rest of the world. Upon the European discovery of this vast landmass in 1606, many countries tried to take portions of it. Eventually, the British took the entire island of Australia, turning it into one of their most prosperous - and largest - colonies. Due to the vast amount of available land, the British Empire sent convicts to the territory, as a way of keeping the British Isles crime-free. Eventually, in 1901, Australia got its first Prime Minister, and eventually independence from Great Britain. As a newly-formed nation, Australia joined the First and Second World Wars, helping to put its place on the world map. Today, Australia is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world, as well as having strong economic and political links with other countries.

Harold Holt[]

Harold Holt was Australia's 17th Prime Minster from January 1966 to December 1967, the second PM of the still 'newly' formed Liberal party. He is best know for the dismantling of the 'White Australia policy', the introduction of decimal currency, the 1967 referendum on Indigenous inclusion in the census and federal laws, and the expansion of Australia's efforts in the Vietnam War. Holt is also one of only three PMs to have died in office (the other being Joseph Lyons and John Curtin) having disappeared in the waters off Cheviot Beach, despite knowing the beach well and being an avid swimmer, he was presumed to have been caught in a rip and drowned.

Dawn of Man[]

"Let the beauty of the sea guide you, astute Harold Holt, 17th Prime Minister of Australia. Starting your political career at a young age, you were an instrumental minister during the years of Robert Menzies, who considered you a protégé. As the Minister for Immigration you relaxed the White Australia policy, which you would continue to dismantle during your premiership, and as Treasurer you were responsible for the creation of the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Australian dollar. However, it would be in your brief, two year stint as prime minister, where you would leave your greatest legacy. Domestically, you implemented policies long called for by indigenous peoples. And in the foreign arena, you, as a strong believer in domino theory, supported the United States, declaring that you were “all the way with LBJ”, as part of your close relationship with the President and a growing commitment to Australia’s place in Asia. But on the 17 December, 1967, you disappeared while swimming at a beach, never to be seen again.

Your vision and sensible moderation are needed now more than ever, Harold Holt. The people of Australia have forgotten your achievements and have been led astray by poor leaders and false Liberals. Emerging from your beloved sea once more, we ask, can Australia hold against the toppling dominos of the enemy? Will you build a civilization to stand the test of time?"

Introduction: "Welcome to the Great Southern Land, Australia. I am it's Prime Minister, and bearer of freedom, Harold Holt."

Defeat: "It is in times of crisis I look to go for a swim on one of Australia's beautiful beaches. I hope you will indulge me for one last trip?"
